Chapter Notions

Your first steps

To begin, your teacher Sandrine Luigi will introduce you the instrument and its anatomy. She will show you the best position to play the guitar correctly.

Sandrine will address several technical concepts she will use in this course and that you will see later as a classical guitarist.

Tuning your guitar

You will be explained what are the different strings and how to tune them. You will then discover how to tune your instrument with a tuner.

Right hand technique

On the right hand, you will discover open strings, notes on low strings (E A D) and on high strings (G B E).

It’s time to learn your first music theory fundamentals! Start by studying two rhythmic patterns: the half-note and the quarter note. You will have the possibility to apply these notions and to practice them on your first music pieces.

Arpeggio

In this chapter, Sandrine Luigi will teach you how to master arpeggios. An arpeggio is a playing technique widely used in guitar and more specifically in accompaniment.

Master the arpeggio technique and practice on small pieces specially composed for you.

Left hand technique

Use the left hand to change the notes you’re playing! First, you will see how to position your hand correctly on the neck. You will then see more in detail the guitar neck and the frets.

Start playing your first notes with your left hand. At the end of this chapter you will find three pieces prepared for you:

  • a mini dialogue
  • an excerpt from Küffner
  • an excerpt from Aguado.

Accompaniment and melody

Learn to play the melody and the accompaniment on classical pieces such as  “Sur un air d’Albeniz”, “Malaguena” et “un duo de Küffner”.

Sandrine Luigi gives you many tips on how to adopt the right gesture.

Polyphony, eighth note and sight-reading

In this last chapter, you will learn how to read notes on the same staff. This will enable you to play the melody or the accompaniment, or the bass notes and the melody.

You will also discover a new rhythmic pattern: the eighth note.

By training on different pieces and using the exercises available, you will learn to master this rhythm.
