This course is divided into three parts: the presentation and introduction, the basic skills to know, and a section of exercises on etudes and folk pieces.

ChapterDetailed Notions

Introduction to the Saxophone

Nikola Lutz introduces herself and her background as a saxophonist.

She shows you the structure of this instrument and all its components. She teaches you how to correctly place your mouth with the reed, and how to make your first sound with the saxophone.

Then, discover how to put your instrument back and clean the reed and mouthpiece when you are finished with it.

After that, Nikola shows you how to make notes with your tongue, playing legato or not.

To finish this introduction, you discover several types of saxophones.

Saxophone Basic Skills

In this chapter you will practice with several exercises. The first one aims to stabilize you ability to keep tempo and rhythm in order to remain stable when changing divisions. You will work with the help of the metronome.

In a second phase, you will train on intensifying the perception of the pulsation here again with the help of the metronome.

Saxophone Exercices

In this last chapter, you will mainly do exercises on the following etudes:

“Etude No. 1” by Charles Koechlin 

“Etude No. 1 Adagio con espressione” by Ferling

German Folk Song “Abend wird es wieder”

Chinese Folk Song
