Canadian jazz, pop, and classical violinist

Lenny Solomon was born 28 September 1952 in Toronto. He is a Canadian jazz, pop, and classical violinist and composer. An active studio musician, he has performed on hundreds of recordings and soundtracks. In addition, he has also recorded two of his own jazz albums. He has appeared as a guest soloist with a number of orchestras, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. Lenny Solomon has served as concertmaster for a variety of theatrical entertainments.

In 1982 he formed the pop string quintet Quintessence with guitarist Bill Bridges. He made a couple recordings with that ensemble for Duke Street Records and also toured with them throughout Canada during the 1980s. Lenny Solomon has performed over 2000 concerts worldwide. He has recorded and released 40 albums since 1984 with his band Kesher and his band Shlock Rock. In 1992, Lenny Solomon released his debut CD for Jazz Inspiration, After You’ve Gone, and three years later came out with The Gershwin Sessions, a set that included guests Ruby Braff and Peter Appleyard.

The pedagogy of Lenny Solomon

Solomon appeared with the Toronto Symphony and Winnipeg Symphony, and was concertmaster for various theatrical productions. He was named violinist of the year three times, 1994-96, by The Jazz Report; RPM called him “…today’s best jazz violinist. Period”. An active studio musician, Solomon recorded with Nigel Kennedy, Anne Murray, John McDermott, and others.

In 2000 Lenny founded the violin ensemble Bowfire which made its debut performance at Expo 2000. Bowfire toured internationally until 2015. In 2000 he established the chamber group Trio Norté. In 2015, Lenny enlisted Marc Ganetakos and longtime collaborator and bassist Shelly Berger to help write and perform on his new album, The Blues Violin.
