Guitarist, composer, singer, arranger and music producer, Luiz de Aquino began his career in Brazil in the world of classical guitar and Choro (traditional Brazilian music).

In France, he became a specialist of the Brazilian guitar style and started a career as a soloist and accompanist, with several tours in France and abroad. His 2004 album “Esquina do Tempo” opened up to him a career as a singer, and his album “Bahia de Bretagne”, in duet with the singer Véronique le Berre, earned him the Grand Prix of the Charles Cros Academy.

In 2009 he created the publishing company Nova Nota and has now almost entirely dedicated himself to musical production for the audiovisual industry, having produced hundreds of titles that have been used in films, commercials and documentaries around the world.

Originally from the city of Santos in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, he began learning guitar with his mother before studying classical guitar with great South American masters such as Turibio Santos, Henrique Pinto and Abel Carlevaro.

He later studied composition, arranging and conducting at the University of Sao Paulo before arriving in France at the age of 23. He was the first Brazilian to be accepted at the CNSM of Paris in the class of Alexandre Lagoya. He later studied jazz guitar with Pierre Cullaz, and harmony with Bernard Maury and Jean-Claude Fohrenbach.

In the 90’s, with his colleague Antoine Tatich, he founded the ATLA school (Antoine Tatich-Luiz de Aquino) in Paris, which has become one of the most important schools for contemporary music in France.  He has also taught Brazilian guitar and harmony in other institutions such as the Atelier de Guitare at the University of Jussieu, and has led numerous workshops and masterclasses in France and abroad. Luiz de Aquino is currently recognized internationally as one of the greatest specialists of the “Brazilian guitar” style.
