Pop Piano crash course
Want to accompany your favourite pop songs on the piano, but don’t know how to go about it? Renowned American pianist and composer Erik Deutsch, who has worked with great music industry names such as Norah Jones, The Chicks or Rosanne Cash, shares with you his method for creating rich and diversified accompaniments to any song from a simple chord grid.
Using the really basic chord grid of Hey Jude by the Beatles as a basis for your work throughout the course, Erik shows you how to develop it musically and rhythmically to make it sound like a pro piano accompaniment.
The beginning of the course will focus on triads (three-note chords), as you learn to play with chord inversions to bring more diversity to your playing. Erik then will introduce you to some really simple rythmic patterns that will make your accompaniment much more dynamic : bass movements with the left hand, and different techniques to “fill in the spaces” using your right hand.
Throughout the course, you will be able to practice and apply Erik’s advice to interactive playbacks.
