A high-flying performer
The only child of icon Dr Nina Simone , Lisa Simone, born in 1962, decided to follow her family’s musical legacy while serving as an Engineering Assistant in the United States Air Force (1981-1991). Inspired to sing professionally, she traveled throughout Europe in party bands and with the Magic Platters before joining Spain’s Raphael Martos as a background singer, on his world tour (1992-1993). Using the name SIMONE, Lisa began her prolific career in Broadway musicals with Jesus Christ Superstar (1994-1995). The original Broadway cast of Rent followed (1996-1998) for which she received several award nominations in her role as Mini Marquez. She received the National Theatre Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her performances as Disney’s Aida in the First National Tour (2001) before taking her talent in the role to Broadway’s Palace Theatre (2002-2003). In addition to her success in musicals (The Lion King, Les Miserables) Lisa earned a Grammy nomination as a member of acid- jazz band, Liquid Soul (1998-1999) and released 3 personal albums while living in France: All Is Well (2014), My World (2016), and In Need Of Love (2019).
